SPOT THE DIFFERENCE

Sometimes I design in bed…

That is what a laptop has done to me. It is no longer a tool, but an extension of my body.

A mechanical limb… That also has high speed internet connection.

Is this a glimpse of the future? A place where even physical movement has become redundant…

I travel to university to learn, but could just as easily do so from the comfort of my bed… so long as you email me the lecture notes.

I’m 6 foot foot tall, built like Arnold, as smart as Steven Hawking and have had more girlfriends then Hugh Heffner… If it wasn’t for the photo above, you might actually believe me.

As designers, we are essentially social engineers. We craft peoples perceptions. But as technology develops and grows, so does our perceived need.

Digital space is a monster that is slowly growing to consume every aspect of our being.

In August 2000, 54 million or 51% of American households, had one or more computers, up 9% from 2 years previously!

We are in a sense becoming addicted to technology and what it has to offer us.

As we live in a society that is becoming increasingly well informed due to accessibility of information, more and more emphasis is being placed on immediacy. We no longer choose to live within our means, but instead find comfort in the luxuries of modern innovation. I dont know how we ever managed to survive for this long without refrigerators connected to the internet… seriously?! But eventually the technology will become a part of us in the literal sense and the need for digital connectivity will be a necessity. Its purposes will become ingrained within every aspect of our life. Perhaps we will plug ourselves in, and transcend the physical, into a digital word where we as society can create and manipulate our own realities.
